5 Reasons why diving is better than skiing…

Okay, diving and skiing are both fun in their own way, they both provide a good excuse to travel to exotic destinations with friends, and provide have a certain friendly relationship with drinking and relaxation. Here are my reasons why diving is better than skiing (warning, old man alert)…
- No ski boots. I know fins and dive gear can be a faff, but in the right location (Cayman), you don’t even need a wetsuit. You can basically dive in your underwear. One of the best things about skiing is taking the boots off at the end of the day.
- Skiing is like a safari underwater. I love seeing animals, when you’re diving you’re always spotting different amazing creatures. Whilst I keep a look out on the slopes for moose and other critters, I have yet to see anything.
- No snow-boarders… Nothing against the art of snowboarding, it does look cool, but why do they have to think they are so cool? Plus, they’re definitely more dangerous than skiiers. Of course, divers have to put up with “free-divers” and their “zen”, but (a) they don’t come on dive boats; and (b) you can’t chat or play annoying music underwater.
- It’s scientifically established that being on the water is relaxing (well, I’m pretty sure I read that somewhere, and I always feel more relaxed on the water).
- You’re generally in a tropical climate (although ice-diving does look cool, no pun intended).
And nitrox is great for clearing hangovers…
Okay, so there are some benefits to skiing:
- You get to take the ski-boots off at the end of the day. It’s like when you take your tie off after work.
- You can drink inbetween ski-runs.
- You don’t need to learn sign language to communicate.
- You get to stay in amazing places, with log fires, such as the Hotel Quintessence in Mont Tremblant.
- Stacking it is actually quite exhilarating, once you’ve checked for broken limbs.
All in all, they’re both fun, at the right time, in the right place, but skiing needs the right people too.
No rational person could disagree with me, but if you do, let me know below!
My girlfriend is an avid skier while I am obsessed with diving, so this post sparked a great argument… thanks! 😜 Although I must admit drinks on the slopes are for winners 👍🏼🍻 Drinks during surface intervals generally less acceptable 😂
Glad you had a constructive debate! My wife would vote skiing I think! Thanks for commenting
